Disposal Process for Removed Doors

When your new doors are installed, the old doors are removed by DORTEK teams and moved to the location you specify within the building. However, since the removal of the doors from the building, collection, and disposal fall under the responsibility of municipalities, you will need to initiate this stage.

You can easily complete the process by following the steps below.

1. Assess the Condition of the Door

  • If the door is in usable condition: You can contact second-hand / surplus stores, scrap dealers, or organizations that accept donations. This option is generally free of charge, and the door can often be collected directly from your address.
  • If the door is not usable: If the door is classified as bulky waste or, when resulting from renovation work, as renovation waste, you should contact your municipality’s waste collection service.

2. Contact Your District Municipality’s Cleaning Affairs Directorate

You can contact your district municipality through the following channels:

  • Municipal call center (153 in many municipalities)
  • The “Request / Application” form on the municipality’s official website
  • The municipality’s mobile application or WhatsApp support line
  • Directly contacting the Cleaning Affairs Directorate

Information You Should Have Ready When Applying:

  • Full address (neighborhood, street, building number, apartment number, floor)
  • Type of waste: bulky waste / renovation waste – wooden interior door
  • Number of doors and approximate dimensions
  • Elevator availability and vehicle access conditions

3. Confirm Fees and Charges

Practices may vary from one municipality to another:

  • In many municipalities, bulky waste collection services are free of charge.
  • Waste resulting from renovation or replacement projects may be subject to a fee under the annual municipal fee schedule in some municipalities.
  • If a fee applies, payment can be made at municipal cashier offices or through the municipality’s online payment system. It is recommended that you keep your receipt.

Be sure to confirm the current fee schedule and payment method when submitting your request.

4. Have the Doors Ready on the Appointment Day

  • Municipal teams generally collect the doors from the front of the building or the building entrance; removing them from inside the apartment is usually outside the scope of the service.
  • Move the doors to the designated location shortly before the scheduled collection time.
  • For doors containing glass, mirrors, or metal components, you may be asked to separate the components and package them safely.

5. Alternative Solutions

If you do not want to wait for a municipal appointment:

  • Scrap dealers / second-hand dealers: They generally collect the doors on the same day, often free of charge.
  • Private waste collection companies: These services are chargeable but may include removal from inside the apartment.
  • Recycling centers: You can deliver the doors yourself.

Important Notice

Leaving the doors on the street, sidewalk, or next to a waste container without obtaining an appointment may result in an administrative fine under environmental regulations. Please coordinate the disposal process with your municipality.
